Life After God by Douglas Coupland

Monday 5 December | 10.30am | The Day Nursery, Old Government House | Free

Held in conjunction with the exhibition, The 60th Blake Prize, this month we tackle Life After God by Douglas Coupland. What happens if we are raised without religion or beliefs? As we grow older, the beauty and disenchantments of the world temper our souls. We all have spiritual impulses, yet where do these impulses flow in a world of commodities and consumerism? Life After God is a compellingly innovative collection of stories responding to these themes.

Join us for a complimentary morning tea and insightful discussion led by Elizabeth Ellison, Penny Holliday and Ariella Van Luyn from Creative Writing and Literary Studies, QUT. Books are available to purchase from QUT Art Museum.

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson

Monday 14 November | 10.30am | The Day Nursery, Old Government House | Free

Held in conjunction with the exhibition, The 60th Blake Prize, this month we tackle the Whitbread Award winning novel Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson. This is the story of Jeanette, adopted and brought up by her mother as one of God's elect. Zealous and passionate, she seems destined for life as a missionary, but then she falls for one of her converts. At sixteen, Jeanette decides to leave the church, her home and her family for the young woman she loves. Innovative, punchy and tender, Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit is a few days' ride into the bizarre outposts of religious excess and human obsession.

Join us for a complimentary morning tea and insightful discussion led by Elizabeth Ellison, Penny Holliday and Ariella Van Luyn from Creative Writing and Literary Studies, QUT. Books are available to purchase from QUT Art Museum.
