Their elaborate and intricately planned installations have captured the imagination of audiences from diverse backgrounds. Each of their installations is an ongoing exploration of ideas around migration, family, belonging and dislocation, with each subsequent artwork building upon the previous.
Fragments: another country is the first major survey of the Aquilizans' work. It will restage many of the large-scale installations and provide an unprecedented opportunity to view the work as a comprehensive series, thus providing a unique insight into the creative processes of this internationally acclaimed art duo.

Participatory art and the experience economy
Dr Mark Pennings
WED 24 JUL, 6PM, FREE
Just as Pop Art depicted the abundance of material products in a postwar consumer society, Participatory Art represents today's experience economies. Participatory Art's engagement with experience economies in which it aesthetically codifies experiences, is associated with neoliberal practices that commodify 'authentic' experiences. Participatory Art that contributes to populist entertainment modes and enhances the art museum experience in cultural tourist precincts also converges with economic requirements. While much Participatory Art mimics the commodification of experiential human relations via aesthetic codification, there are some practices that seek to foster experiences that transcend consumerist and aesthetic instrumentalisation. All participatory endeavours however remain framed within experiential and immaterial doctrines.
Dr Mark Pennings, Senior Lecturer, QUT presents this new research.

Exclusive exhibition preview
FRI 31 MAY, 5PM, FREE
In partnership with QUT Alumni we would like to invite all QUT alumni to join us in celebrating the opening of Charles Conder: the lithographs and Heavy weights: international works on paper from the collection through an exclusive exhibition preview including a curator-led floor talk.
Charles Conder: The lithographs includes a series of lithographic prints created by the enigmatic English born artist Charles Conder. Immigrating to Australia in the late 1800s, Conder was a contemporary of Tom Roberts and both were key figures in the Heidelberg School. Spanning the period of 1899 until 1906 and drawing on subjects from Balzac and the bohemian talks of Henri Merger, the lithographs are some of Conder's finest work.
QUT holds a significant collection of international works on paper by 20th century luminaries such as Alexander Calder, David Hockney, William Kentridge, Fernand Leger, Sol LeWitt, Joan Miro, Henry Moore and Joe Tilson. Individually, many of these works have never been exhibited and certainly never as a comprehensive collection focus as in Heavy weights: international works on paper from the collection. The scarcity of holdings of works on paper by international artists outside of major state and national collections contextualises the QUT Art Collection as one of national and international significance.

Proposed as an exhibition of 'living sculpture', this ambitious project ran for 11 days in April and was curated by two of the world's most the highly regarded curators, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Co-director of London's Serpentine Gallery, and Klaus Biesenbach, Director of MoMA PS1 in New York.
